Willy Simon

Exploring cities, coding maps, and building a life on my own terms.

Hello, I’m Willy Simon

I spent nearly 8 years working as a transportation planner at the Mid-Region Council of Governments in New Mexico. Now, I’m learning how to create beautiful and useful things with code, maps, and design — and I’m building this site to track the journey.

I’m interested in:

  • 🛹 Urban mobility
  • ☕ Coconuts, Teh Tarik, Masala Chai & Vermut
  • ⚽ Soccer & Skateboarding
  • 🌇 That 10 minutes right after sunset
  • 🌍 Exploring great cities
  • 💪 Hiking, working out, and creating cool stuff

After years in government work, I realized I wanted more freedom in what I build and how I spend my time. So I’m teaching myself:

  • Python — especially Pandas & GeoPandas for data and spatial analysis
  • JavaScript — with Leaflet.js for interactive web maps
  • QGIS — for geospatial workflows

I’ll be using this space to share my progress, publish blog posts, and show examples of what I’m building.

Thanks for stopping by — feel free to check out my resume or read the blog to see what I’ve been working on.
